I would like to welcome you, dear reader, to yet another excruciatingly nerdy — but maybe less in-depth — edition of What Zoey Thinks of WoW Stuff. In this edition of the complicated but virtually useless recesses of my mind, I will be going into my favorite playable classes in WoW.
I know, I know. It’s not exactly relevant to life.
Azeroth is my happy place, and it’s more than acceptable to think about it more than the average Joe would.
Priest
I think this is probably my favorite class of them all. Pretty much every one of my “main”s has been a Priest — except for Classic. She’s a Hunter.
First there was Solaryhnne, a Draenei Priest. She was the first character I ever made, and while I still haven’t gotten her all the way to max level — I’ve gotten distracted by other characters — I really love her for all the memories.
Then there was the first of two characters I ever level-boosted: Blood Elf High Priest Elylestra. She’s become a staple in the world I created based on Azeroth, and she’s the only character of mine who’s made it through any Legion Order Hall.
Speaking of Order Halls, this is obviously my favorite. A lot of my favorite characters are Priests, as well: Anduin — even though he’s taken on a bit more of a Paladin role — Liadrin used to be a Priest…
Okay, maybe referring to NPCs in WoW isn’t the best way to illustrate my point.
But anyway, I absolutely love this class… even with the slight decreases in abilities committed by those who wish to make Priest a purely healer class rather than the boss mode that was Shadow Priest. (It’s kind of coming back, though — thank goodness.)
Demon Hunter
I love this class for the sake of its history. I’ve read just about every book in the WoW universe correlating to the Demon Hunters, and while I haven’t managed to get through most of the game content relating to them, I do know a great deal of the history.
Now, to sum up how I feel about them…
I love them.
Seeing the devotion of each member to the cause of defeating the Burning Legion, and thereby their leader, Lord Illidan. They follow his lead because they know his ultimate priority is the same as theirs, and that he’ll do whatever it takes.
That’s a rather intriguing and pleasant thing to see.
Death Knight
I don’t necessarily like playing the class or devoting myself to the story, I absolutely love the vast number of times I’ve enjoyed the starting storyline of ye olde Death Knight.
When I was finally able to create a Death Knight in Classic WoW, I was ecstatic. I played through that starting zone…
Then got kinda depressed because I was only at level 58, and I didn’t want to have to play around for those last two agonizingly slow levels to finally make it to that blessed level 60 ding.
Warlock
This is probably one of the most fun classes in the whole catalog, if you ask me. I can just run around and kill stuff, steal the health of my foes, sic my Shivarra on them — and I’m really proud of that sucker because I had to go out of my way to make a glyph, and while that isn’t extremely time-consuming, I could have been doing other things.
I haven’t gotten through that much of the Order Hall yet, but I’m already enjoying the characters, particularly Shinfel, who is probably one of the sassiest little Blood Elves I’ve ever come across.
And they get really sassy.
Oh, man now all I can think of is Johnny Awesome and that starpony. Please let me know if you ever got to experience that questline. I don’t remember where it was… I’ll run across it again at some point.
Mage
I’m going to say one thing here that might make a few people question my ability to play the game at all.
Why do Mages suck so bad? Why do they die after two hits?
Why do they have to look and be so stinkin’ cool?
Cloth-armor classes are my favorite — casters, am I right? — but I there has to be one that falls flat in every group once in a blue moon. (For me, at least. I’m well aware there are other players who succeed at playing Mage… not only succeed, but would absolutely pummel my little Priest into the ground.)
But those are my thoughts on the subject, and the only way I’ve found to successfully level my own Mage characters is Archaeology. I’m just hoping this new human Mage I’ve made will survive to complete her Order Hall, honestly.
Hunter
This is one of those classes that I love but know I don’t really do that well at playing. Okay, I don’t really play any of the classes to their fullest because I’m not professional in any sense of the world — either paid or skilled.
I don’t organize my spell bar, I don’t utilize the talent tree to the fullest extent, and I don’t keep everything in the most efficient organization on the screen.
And you know what?
That’s okay.
I have a pretty darn good time playing Astoreana — my Classic main and max-level Retail character… I boosted her to 70 tbh… — and I don’t feel the need to have all of the technicalities. Several characters I love are Hunters: Sylvanas, Vereesa, Nathanos…
Maybe they’re all somehow related to the Windrunner legacy. That’s fine, too, though!
We’re allowed to pick favorites when it’s a video game we’re talking about.
Wrapping Everything Up
Liking a particular class more than the others doesn’t mean I won’t play the less favored of the options. WoW is WoW, and playing a video game with such peak storytelling, gameplay, and design is going to override any potential learning/playing curves when it comes to what I’m best at.
On my “WoW-ed by Zoey” playthrough channel — its more a catalog of references for my future fanfiction endeavors than anything else — I’m going to be playing through every single one of the Order Halls. (I’m currently on the Legion expansion because that’s the one I wanted to play first.)
Hope you enjoyed this article!
I love hunter most, priest second, everything else I’ve only dabbled a bit in but never really been passionate in. I must say it was pretty fun when I tried out a panda tank and feeling so … tanky after being squishy my whole WoW life 😂
